Tell the government to bring home Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor
Two Canadians arrested by Chinese authorities on trumped-up charges have been in prison for exactly one year on December 10th.
Ever since the diplomatic dispute over the arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou for violating U.S. sanctions laws and the resulting arrest of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor as retribution, Justin Trudeau looks like a fish out of water.
He can’t decide whether to treat China as an ally or an adversary.
To anyone paying attention to China, both its grotesque human rights record and its increasingly belligerent foreign affairs, it’s clear that the communist regime in China is no friend to Canada.
It’s time the Trudeau government stand up to China and demand the release of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor.
While the Huawei CFO complains about having to endure house arrest in one of her two Vancouver-area mansions, the Chinese government has barred Kovrig and Spavor access to family and lawyers.
The pair have allegedly been subject to repeated interrogations.
Earlier this year, prison officials also confiscated Kovrig’s reading glasses.
One can only imagine what conditions they’re being detained in.
